Best Restaurants in Cancún 2026 — Where Locals and Smart Tourists Eat

Cancún's restaurant scene splits into two almost unrelated worlds: the Hotel Zone strip aimed at international visitors, and the local food culture of El Centro. The best meals in Cancún are rarely in the first world.

Best Yucatecan food — El Centro

La Parrilla (Av. Yaxchilán 51): The most reliable Yucatecan restaurant in El Centro. Poc chuc, cochinita pibil, and sopa de lima done consistently well. Prices: $150–300 MXN per person. Expect a 20-minute wait on weekends.

Mercado 28: The market's food court serves the most authentic — and cheapest — Yucatecan cooking in the city. Cochinita tacos at $25–35 MXN each, papadzules, huevos motuleños. No menus, just point at what's in the pots. Open from 7am.

El Rincón Yucateco (SM 25): A small, locally-run spot doing papadzules and panuchos that don't appear on any tourist map. $80–150 MXN for a full meal.

Best seafood

El Pescado Ciego (Hotel Zone, km 12.5): Ceviches, tostadas, and aguachiles done properly. $300–500 MXN per person. The seafood quality is significantly higher than the resort buffets.

Los Arcos (El Centro, Av. Bonampak): Local institution. Whole fish, grilled shrimp, and fresh ceviche at prices that make Hotel Zone seafood restaurants look embarrassing. $200–350 MXN per person.

Best tacos

Taquería Los Ibarras (SM 64): Al pastor and suadero that the locals who drive from the Hotel Zone to eat. Open until 2am. $20–35 MXN per taco. Cash only.

Tacos Rigo (near Mercado 23): Birria and carne asada. $18–30 MXN per taco. Arrive before 9pm or it's sold out.

Hotel Zone options worth the price

La Destilería (km 12.65): Mexican cuisine with a serious mezcal and tequila list. $400–700 MXN per person but the food quality and atmosphere justify it for a special dinner.

Harry's Prime Steakhouse & Raw Bar (km 14.6): The best steak in the Hotel Zone. $800–1,500 MXN per person but consistent quality. Popular for business dinners and celebrations.
