Best Time to Visit Cancún in 2026 — Month by Month Guide

Cancún doesn't have a bad month — it's a tropical destination with consistent temperatures year-round. But it does have significant price swings, crowd level differences, and weather patterns that change the experience substantially depending on when you go.

December–January — Peak season

The most popular months. Holidays bring North American and European families. New Year's Eve in Cancún is a major event. Weather: 22–27°C, almost no rain, light breezes. Trade-off: highest prices of the year (20–40% above shoulder season rates), crowded beaches, limited resort availability. Book 3–4 months in advance for December.

February–March — Best overall months

February is widely considered the best month to visit Cancún. Excellent weather (25–28°C), low rainfall, and slightly lower prices than December. March is good until Spring Break (mid-March to mid-April) when the Hotel Zone is at maximum capacity.

April — Spring Break and Holy Week

April brings Semana Santa (Holy Week) — the busiest week of the year for Mexican domestic tourism. Prices spike, beaches are at maximum capacity, beach clubs limit day passes. If your dates fall in early April, go to El Centro to avoid the worst of it. After Holy Week, things calm significantly.

May–June — Shoulder season sweet spot

Underrated months. Prices drop 20–35% below peak. Weather is still excellent — hotter (30–33°C) but rarely rainy. Hurricane season doesn't typically produce storms until August. The water warms to 28–29°C — the best swimming temperature of the year.

July–August — Summer peak

Mexican domestic tourism peaks (school holidays). Hotels fill up again, prices rise but not to December levels. Weather is hot (32–34°C) and humid, with afternoon storms possible but usually brief. The water is at its warmest.

September–October — Low season

The quietest and cheapest months. September is the statistical peak of hurricane season. October sees the first north winds (nortes) bringing cooler temperatures. Upside: prices 30–50% below peak, almost no crowds, exceptional photography light.

November — Transition month

Excellent choice. Prices haven't yet reached December peaks. Weather is comfortable (26–29°C). Wind picks up (good for kiteboarding). Crowds are building but manageable. Book 6–8 weeks in advance for mid-to-late November.
